Woodbank parkrun 18/8/12

Well it started with my alarm going off and me just switching it off and going back to sleep waking up just in time to get up and run. Arriving at the track saying hello to all the regulars. The weather was warm and muggy not great running weather I really wished I had put on a vest on and not my 50 t-shirt. After lining up on the start and a few race announcements we were off feeling good as we headed around the track and then out into the wide lanes of Woodbank park. The breeze in your face down the long straight was quite refreshing as we headed towards the hill in Vernon park as per usual going down the hill I overtook a few people and turned the corner an pushed on getting to the bottom of the climb and still feeling pretty good and overtaking a couple of people going up the hill. After the hill I was very hot and it had started to take its toll. Pretty much everyone I overtook going down and up the hill came back past me and then a few more did I carried on getting slower and slower around the 1k loop and then back down the hill for the second time but this time as I turned the sharp corner I had nothing left in my legs and ended up walking I walked up to near the top of the hill then ran to the finish putting in a sprint to overtake a good few people on the finish straight which took everything out of me. Looking forward to weeks 3rd anniversary run in fancy dress still haven't decided on which sport to go as though

Sale Sizzler

Well last night was the final Sale sizzler of the 4 event series with my legs still feeling heavy from the cross bay challenge last Sunday and run the flash 10k the day before I wasn't hoping for a good time just a to be quicker than my last sizzle would make me happy. It was good weather to run the muggy weather had finally cooled down a a light wind seemed just right. The race was a special race as we had a good few ex olympians running with us inlcuding Ron Hill and Diane Modahl. My pre race warm up was as useless as always a slow 300m jog to the start I am still trying to learn not to go off to fast in distance events being a sprinter doesn't help but I am getting there.

As the gun  went there was the usual mass psuh as 600+ runners tried to get on the inside lane of the track for the 500 metres that you ae on it. on leaving the park I tried to stick to a couple of other Stockport runners but I knew it wasn't going to be for long as you run up the car park road towardds the main road I started to drop back and then got into a steady pace and concentrate on getting round the course at the 2k marker you enter the park again and slowly make your way back to the car park road to start the second lap at this time my legs were really starting to feel heavy but I knew I was going to keep running I was measuring my pace of a guy tthat looked like he was doing interval training doing the race running about 200 metres then walking for about the same. I was slowly getting closer to his stopping points and as we entered the park again his walk started as I passed him. a steady stream of runners were passing me so to finally pass another runner felt good as we approached the track a friend came passed right on target for a great PB for her I tried to keep up but my legs were refusing to listen to me as we entered the track and 200m to go I tried again to push for the finish and try and get back under 23 minutes I failed but I did pass 2 runners in the finish staright and my GPs time of 23:05 I was quite happy with of course the offcial time was wrong as it always seems to be at the sales sizzlers but this time it was only out by 4 seconds so  a race series of 22:56 first race, 22:29 second race, 24:25 third race and finshing with a 23:09 in the fourth and final race so I am know another medal heavier and a spot prize of a Ron Hill winter running hat.
